I have a Tartan 34 (1987 model) with a long blade rudder. The Slipstream 2 blade prop has been absolutely great and I was astounded at the improved performance that has resulted.
I expected the increase in speed (about a half knot) in both sail and power, that was no surprise.
What surprised me was the much more responsive handling with wind gusts, significantly decreased weather helm and even slightly higher pointing ability. I would guess that these resulted because the prop is on the center line and about 20 inches in front of the rudder; with the Slipstream there is a smooth flow of water over the entire rudder while with the old fixed 2 blade it was probably disturbing the flow over about a third of the rudder surface.
The boat now handles and tracks much better with the Slipstream. With the fixed 2 blade, weather helm became a real issue at wind speeds over 18 knots, now I can take my hands off the helm and the boat continues to track without my having to fight the wheel.
To say that I am pleased is an understatement.
